Easy ways to leverage your players for better social content

With so much of our fan base at home instead of in the stands this last year, social media has quickly become the easiest means of connecting with our audience where they are - on their phones. We shared more in-game coverage, more highlights, and more behind-the-scenes content as we tried to bring our audience into the fold and give them that same in-person experience, all while they were tuning in from their couches. As teams continue to evolve their social media approaches, many have found success at putting their players at the forefront of those strategies. In a world where entertainment is key, player-focused content helps teams deliver. Read on to see how some Slate customers are doing this exceptionally well!

Player Hosted Content

An approachable way to highlight players is to simply share content they create on their mobile device to your social accounts as player-hosted content. This delivers the behind the scene, all-access look at your players that your fans crave.

"Trivia Tuesdays is some of our hardest working content for us. We’re able to showcase our players’ personalities while also giving fans an opportunity to interact with our stories to build a stronger connection. Fans and players both love it!"

- Amy Morgan, Content Director, Hawthorn Football Club

Player Specific Graphics & Filters

Many clubs are turning to graphics to highlight their players in-game. These can take many forms, but all allow teams to be fluid and flexible as they adapt to every game/play/etc.

These can also help highlight player personalities. Fans are eager to get to know players both on and off the court/field/rink and Slate graphics can make this content much easier to produce and get live in a way that continues to feel true to your brand.

Content on Player Channels

Some organizations are helping their players with their own social presences by putting Slate into the hands of their athletes. This tactic gives players the tools they need to produce enticing content and build their own brand while helping to contribute to your team’s social dominance.

"Our athletes are all about increasing awareness and building their fan affinity. Slate becomes an integral role within this strategy for us by authentically integrating their voices while also maintaining league and team identity through unique assets players have full access to."

- Katie Scott, Senior Graphic Designer, Premier Lacrosse League

When your players are sharing content to their own channels, this also provides you with the opportunity to share to your stories, bolstering your media plan. And when you do a good job profiling your players, they are more apt to share that content to their own channels. It's a win-win.
