How to Use Slate Backgrounds to Reposts on Instagram Stories

Below you will find two workflows to customize reposted content on your Instagram stories. We have found that Instagram consistently tests different workflows to achieve this, so if one does not work reach out to our team and we’ll find you a solution!

IMPORTANT NOTE:When adding a background to your Slate app you’ll want to design it with it two custom background formats that have built in empty space. We have a simple Photoshop template that makes this instant, feel free to email support@slateteams.com if you would like access!

The Tap Through Method:

  1. On Instagram, select the content you’d like to share and hit ‘Add to your story’
  2. Once you have it in your IG Stories editor, before posting, open your Slate app
  3. In the background drawer, copy or long press (tap and hold the background in the drawer for 2 seconds) the background you’d like to use to frame the content you are reposting, in order to copy the background to your phone’s clipboard
  4. Now switch back to your Instagram app and go to the Text Editor.
  5. Simply long press to pull up the “Paste” option, and with Paste, your custom background will drop into Instagram.
  6. Resize the background so that it fills the entirety of the frame
  7. Tap the reposted content through the empty cutout in your background to pull it through
  8. Add any #hashtags or @handles you want to include & share to your story
